Lucian Blaga was a Romanian philosopher, poet, and playwright. He was born close to the turn of the century, in 1895, and did not speak a word until he was four. He studied theology in his home country and got a PhD from Vienna. He also become a professor and a diplomat.

His writing was acclaimed for its originality. In 1956, he was nominated to the Nobel Prize for Literature, but the communist party went to Sweden to protest against his nomination, as Blaga's poems were forbidden in the country until 1962.

Some of his poem volumes include Poems of Light, The Prophet's Footsteps, and he also wrote drama, as well as philosophical work. He died of cancer in 1961.
